“They came to Elim where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees. They set up camp there by the water.”
The children of Israel just came out of Egypt and are in route to the Promised Land. However, to reach the promise, they must traverse through the desert. Not only are they traversing the desert, but they also just had a deceiving experience at Marah. There they thought they found water to quench their thirsts, but instead found out that the water was bitter.
Then they came to Elim.
The Bible states that there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees at Elim. The Bible doesn’t explicitly say that the Israelites took advantage of the fresh spring water and the palm tree shade, but we can be certain that they were glad to be in such a refreshing place on the journey.
