Did you ever hear the one about the baseball coach that told his pitcher – “don’t pitch high and outside”???
Turns out all the pitcher could think about was what he didn’t wanna do… and well – you guessed it… that’s exactly what he did… high & outside… then the ball went “high & outside” – the pitcher gave the game away… because his focus was on the WRONG THING…
I wonder if we do that? Do we spend excessive energy on telling folks what they shouldn’t be (a sinner) and not enough time on what they could be (CHRIST-LIKE)…??
Could it be that some of these folks that seem to keep slipping up on the same … “stuff” … are living for GOD a lil’ like that pitcher? are you… (they) so hung up on what your NOT supposed to do/be – that you are (opp’s-they are) not seeing and focusing on what they could be… the good they COULD be doing…
I think there could be something to this… if we are overly focused/obsessed on trying to NOT to fall into the “same ol’ trap again” … we may likely fall victim to the same struggle that has always haunted us…
But, (and call me crazy if you must) if we keep focused on what we COULD BE… on what JESUS alive & in us has already made us… KIND, LOVING, POWERFULL, PROPHETIC, GIFTED… perhaps our pitching might just end up right where it needs to be… perhaps we might start being what we have been (re)born to be…
Are we guilty of leaving people with the image of … I donno… what NOT to do instead of what TO do????
How about it? Have you thought about any pink elephants in a while… don’t focus on what YOU DON’T want to do… get the image of CHRIST in your mind as well as your heart… and keep your FOCUS on HIM…

Re: don’t think about that pink elephant
Our actions proceed from our thoughts. If your thoughts are negative, sinful, ugly, destructive what will your actions be?
Php 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
